C. Robert Cloninger, M.D.

Bio
C. Robert Cloninger, M.D. is Wallace Renard Professor of Psychiatry, Professor of Psychology and Genetics, and Director of the Center for Well-Being at Washington University in St. Louis. He is widely cited and honored for his innovative research in the genetics, neurobiology, development, psychology, brain imaging, and psychometric assessment of normal human personality and its disorders, as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology.

Dr. Cloninger has published eight books and over 300 articles in psychiatry, psychology, and human genetics. His most recent book is Feeling Good: The Science of Well-Being (Oxford, 2004). He is among the 100 most highly cited psychiatrists and psychologists recognized by ISI.

In June, 2009 Dr. Cloninger received the Judd Marmor Award from the American Psychiatric Association, which honors an individual "who has contributed to research advancing the biopsychosocial aspects of psychiatry." He has received the American Psychiatric Association’s Adolf Meyer Award in psychobiology, lifetime achievement awards from the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics and the American Society for Addiction Medicine, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.

He received his B.A. with High Honors and Special Honors in Philosophy, Psychology, and Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin, 1966. He received his M.D. from Washington University in 1970; and M.D., honoris causa, from University of Umea, Sweden, 1983.
